Preparing  the Airmen of Tomorrow

New pilots must complete a two-tiered Certification Flight (CF) process before being cleared for flight.

Our goal is to ensure that every pilot who bears the "AFKLM" callsign does so professionally, creating a better experience for you and all those around you. On this page you will find details on each stage of the flight certification process and a registration form to begin training.

OVERVIEW

Certification Flight Training

Designed for mature aviation enthusiasts and seasons pros alike, we offer three distinct flight modes to ensure that your virtual airline career as an AFKLM Airman delivers the right amount of realism, variety and a healthy dose of fun.

CF1
How It Works:
Our Chief Pilot or regional Flight Instructor will accompany on your first flight to an uncontrolled airport.

This flight is considered an
initial evaluation, for which you will be required to prepare a well-designed flight plan.
  • Your instructor will let you know which route to fly and thus to prepare
  • You will have to provide the instructor with gate information, the vertical speed (VS) for your climb, cruising speed and your top of descent distance (TOD).
  • Trainees are able to log CF1 flight hours.
Evaluation:
  • You must demonstrate basic knowledge of flight operations. Your instructor will monitor all aspects of your performance from gate-to-gate.
  • Once landed and parked, you will receive a debrief from your instructor along with a final decision on whether you may progress to CF2 or need to repeat the CF1 stage.

CF2
How It Works:
Again, our Chief Pilot or FI will ask you to create the flight plan for your assigned route. The CF2 flight will utilize low-traffic airports so that you can show how to communicate with Tower & Ground.

Evaluation:
  • You will be responsible for keeping proper separation with other aircraft throughout the flight.
  • We will evaluate your decision-making skills, including but not limited to: approach speeds; when to slow down; your descent path; using proper patterns; and your ability to work with ATC.
  • Following your CF2 debriefing, your instructor will determine if you are ready and pass!

Additional Details

While the aforementioned process is the standard progression through the AFKLM Academy, certain exceptions to the AFKLM Academy procedure apply, including:

  • During CF1, if  everything is perfect and we see that you have positive stats (XP, Landing-to-Violation Ratio, Ghost Infractions) and can clearly operate and aircraft professionally without any help, we may allow your CF2 flight to count as CF3, meaning that if all goes well, e.g. working with ATC at the busiest airport, no issues that require correcting, etc., we will go ahead and pass you early.

  • By the same token, our instructors may also take on pilots that need much more work -- such as repeating CF1 several times -- in order to master the basics of flight.

  • Please note that your AFKLM Crew Center account will not be activated until you contact your Academy instructor to arrange CF1. The assigned Flight Instructor will contact you first.

  • Pilots are expected to contact an instructor to schedule an exam within 7 days of joining AFKLM.

  • Any pilot that fails to make contact with an instructor within one week (7 days)  of joining is subject to suspension from the VA.
